Mary Stuart was known as Queen of Scots. For a short time she was also Queen of France because she had married the Dauphin Francis. She could have become Queen of England too. Mary was beautiful and intelligent, her life was full of romance but full of sadness too.
Mary was born in 1542. Her father was King James V of Scotland. Mary became Queen of Scotland when she was 6 days old. She was Queen until 1567, when she gave up the crown when the protestant lords rose against her and she left Scotland. She asked her cousin Queen Elizabeth I for shelter. But instead she spent 19 years a prisoner in England before she was put to death for treason on 8th February 1587.
Mary never knew her father, who died soon after her birth. As a little girl, she was sent away from her mother to France. Her first husband died two years after their wedding. She was a widow at 18. Her second husband was murdered. Her third husband ran off with her, then deserted her. Her baby boy was taken from her. The Scots rejected her, and the English locked her up. She was beheaded at 44.
Nobody can be indifferent to such a tragic fate.
