David Livingstone was a famous Scottish missionary doctor and explorer in Southern and South Africa.
He attended Anderson’s College to study science and technology. He also studied Greek and theology at Glasgow University. His desire was to become a missionary to China.
When he was 25 years old, he heard about a famous missionary, Robert Moffat, talking about the need for missionaries in Africa. Then he joined the London Missionary Society and sailed to Africa in 1840.
When he arrived there, he saw that the slave trade was cruel and abominable and he was one of the first men who was against slavery.
He was an explorer too and discovered the Victoria Falls in 1855.

When he died, the Africans took his heart and buried it under a tree near the place where he lived. They sent David’s body to his family by boat because everyone loved him in Africa. Mr Livingstone influenced many missionaries to go to Africa and the reason was to help people there.
In my opinion, it was a very good idea to make expeditions and probably he influenced people to hate slavery that’s why I’m interested about what he did because to my mind, a doctor has to save lives.
