David Dunbar Buick was born on September, 17th 1854 in Arbroath, Scotland. He moved to Detroit at the age of two when his parents Alexander and Jane Buick immigrated to the United States.
In spite of his young age, David left school and worked for a company which made plumbing goods. Three years later, the company ran into trouble so he took it over. He began creating many inventions. It was the beginning of a new life for him! Buick lost interest in his plumbing business and the company was sold. David didn’t give up, he created two companies, the ‘Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company’ and the ‘Buick Manufacturing Company’ with the aims of marketing engines to other companies and of manufacturing and selling his own cars.

What a brilliant man! His goal was to give people the opportunity to buy cars so they could travel and see their families.

David worked really hard in order to succeed and he did by producing the revolutionary ‘Valve-In-Head’ for the engines and designed the first Buick motorcars. As a result, almost all modern engines are derived from Buick’s invention.

Unfortunately, his business went bankrupt. However it would eventually become the cornerstone of the General Motor empire. Nowadays, we’re all really thankful to Buick because he made it possible for us to move across the city and travel.
Personally, I can’t imagine a world without cars because it would be difficult for people to travel and that’s why I’ve chosen to write about David Buick.
